Information needed; Can you help?

Part one of my three part documentary looking at the Hillsborough disaster will be out later this month.

I really need to locate the source of two pieces of information though, and I really hope you can help me with that!?

1. Two CCTV tapes recording images from the disaster went missing. I don’t ever recall seeing anything that tells us what those tapes would have shown, had they not disappeared. I realise we can’t know what images they held, but does anybody know for sure what area of the ground, and what time period they covered?

2. I read somewhere that years before the disaster, a senior officer wrote to command to express grave concerns about the access at the Leppings Lane end of the ground. I need to trace details on who sent that letter, to whom, and when if anybody can help?

Thanks in advance. Please either leave a comment on this blog, or email me at mike_nicholson@hotmail.co.uk

Thanks again!

  1. Mike,

I found your website the other day when I was searching for David Duckenfield on the Internet.

I was at Hillsborough in the left hand pen as you come down the tunnel and can’t believe that those responsible still haven’t been brought to Justice and that lies are still circulating, you’re absolutely right when you say 71 hours of video footage and not one piece of evidence of misbehaviour.

    Anyway, onto your questions :-

    1. Two CCTV tapes recording images from the disaster went missing. I don’t ever recall seeing anything that tells us what those tapes would have shown, had they not disappeared. I’m fairly sure that one of the missing tapes was found years later, I’m sure I heard this in one of the many documentaries (First Tuesday, World In Action, The Day I nearly died etc.) which have been aired since the Disaster.

    2. I read somewhere that years before the disaster, a senior officer wrote to command to express grave concerns about the access at the Leppings Lane end of the ground. I need to trace details on who sent that letter, to whom, and when if anybody can help?

I can’t help you directly with this, but I’m sure there had been problems at Leppings Lane for some years, I got talking with a Spurs fan who had been injured in their Semi Final against Wolves? in 1981, he’d become unconcious due to overcrowding and had to be attended to on the track at the edge of the pitch.

Good luck with the Film, I think it’s a brilliant idea that a documentary of what actually happened is always available. There are so many lies and myths surrounding Hillsborough, it’s about time the record was set straight once and for all.
